🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨 CLARKE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY ⚠️ EMERGENCY RESPONSE MAY BE DELAYED DURING HURRICANE ISAIAS Due to the potential for significant winds and dangerous weather conditions associated with Hurricane Isaias, Clarke County Emergency Management Agency advises residents that emergency response services may be delayed, restricted, or temporarily suspended during periods of sustained high winds or dangerous wind gusts. Law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services, and other first responders remain committed to protecting the lives and property of our citizens. However, extreme winds, falling trees, flying debris, downed power lines, and blocked roadways can create life-threatening conditions for emergency personnel. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL RESIDENTS: Emergency Response Delays: During periods of significant winds, emergency vehicles may be unable to respond safely. Response times may be extended until weather conditions improve. Temporary Suspension of Response: If conditions become too dangerous, emergency agencies may temporarily suspend field responses to protect the safety of emergency personnel. 911 Services: Clarke County 911 will continue receiving emergency calls. However, dispatching an emergency call does not guarantee that responders will be able to immediately reach your location. Remain in a Safe Location: Residents are strongly encouraged to shelter indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from windows during periods of high winds. Plan Ahead: Take necessary precautions before conditions deteriorate. Do not wait until the height of the storm to seek a safe location. ⚠️ PLEASE REMEMBER FIRST RESPONDERS CANNOT HELP OTHERS IF THEY BECOME VICTIMS THEMSELVES. Emergency response agencies will make every reasonable effort to provide assistance. However, the safety of emergency personnel must be considered when determining whether conditions allow for a safe response. Emergency calls will continue to be received and prioritized, but some responses may be delayed until conditions are safe enough for personnel to travel. We ask all residents to remain patient, exercise good judgment, and avoid situations that could place themselves or emergency responders in unnecessary danger. IF YOU HAVE A LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCY, CONTINUE TO CALL 911. CLARKE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY Protecting Lives. Supporting First Responders. Keeping Clarke County Safe.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM UPDATE 🌀 10/9 7AM Update: Hurricane Isaias has strengthened into a major Category 3 hurricane with max sustained winds of 120 mph. The storm will begin weakening prior to landfall along our coast this evening, but it will still be a SIGNIFICANT hurricane upon impact. ⚠️ All last minute preparations should be rushed to completion this morning. Residents and tourists should follow the advice given by local officials and evacuate immediately if told to do so. Here are the latest details: 🕒 Timing & Track: Deteriorating conditions through the day today with rain spreading north and tropical storm force winds starting as early as noon. The worst conditions are expected from late afternoon through late evening as the center makes landfall, likely between Mobile Bay and Choctawhatchee Bay. 🌊 Storm Surge: Potential for 6-9 feet for the western Florida Panhandle, 4-6 ft for the Alabama coastline, and 3-5 ft for Mobile Bay. Surge will be highest near and east of the track, while areas west of the track may experience low water levels around landfall. 💨 Winds: Upon approach, widespread tropical storm force winds and wind damage will occur well away from the center, with damaging hurricane-force winds near the center close to the coast. Expect winds to cause structural damage and knock down trees/powerlines, leading numerous power outages. 🌧️ Flooding: Heavy rain near the core of the storm and in bands well east of the center could cause significant flash flooding, especially on saturated ground and in urban areas. Storm total rainfall amounts, generally around 4-8 inches for areas east of the Alabama River; highest by the coast. Localized totals up to 12 inches are possible, particularly near/just west of the track. 🌪️ Tornadoes: An increased threat of several tornadoes exists late afternoon into tonight for areas east of I-65 within the outer bands. 🏖️ Beach Hazards: HIGH risk of strong life-threatening rip currents through the weekend with dangerous surf (20+ ft breakers east of the center) expected through Saturday. Major to extreme beach erosion is expected. *Be Prepared, Not Scared.* 👉 Refer to our tropical webpage for the latest information on local impacts: https://www.weather.gov/srh/tropical?office=mob#hti 📄 See our latest briefing slides: https://www.weather.gov/mob/dsspacket

The current track has the eye of the storm coming just to the east of Thomasville but very close to the city! The track, intensity and timing can change a lot in the hours ahead. We will keep you posted. However, right now is the time to make preparations for a heavy wind and rain event. We need to prepare our homes and yards for high winds.
The schools are monitoring the track and intensity of the storm and will make a call on events for this weekend sometime over the next 24 Hours
